WHY AM I FEELING SO LAZY?

This is one of the most searched questions on the internet. People want to know why they feel so lazy and unmotivated while they need to accomplish their goals. There might be several reasons for feeling lazy.

  • Lack of passion – not having a clear goal
  • Underlying medical condition
  • Relying too much on willpower and motivation
  • No self-control
  • Fixed Mindset – “I can’t do this”.

HOW TO OVERCOME LAZINESS?

Here I’m sharing the tips on how to overcome laziness and become productive :

1. Have a Clear Vision

A clear vision helps you to follow your dreams. Take a piece of paper and write down what would your best life look like, what traits would you like to develop, what would you choose to have in life, what would you wish to accomplish, and what would you want to have more of in your life and what legacy would you want to leave behind?

Have a Clear Vision to overcome laziness

Now, visualise yourself living your ideal life. This imagination will motivate you to take the first step towards making that vision a reality.

2. Set SMART Goals

Set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound) goals. Be realistic while choosing your goals. Goals are what give you direction and keep you away from distractions.

By setting aims, you’ll focus on a purpose rather than doing something aimlessly. When you know you are accountable to finish a certain task,  you’ll automatically overcome laziness.

3. Take Baby Steps

Starting with a big task can be daunting, so it is advisable to take one bite at a time. Break down your bigger task into micro doable parts. Focus on completing one section at a time.

When you start completing these small sections, it’ll give you a sense of accomplishment and motivates you to do the rest of it. Take it easy, start slow and take small breaks when needed.

Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro technique is a time management method that aims to enhance your focus and productivity.

This process is very easy to implement. All you need to use is a timer. According to the Pomodoro technique, break down your task into short timed intervals, known as “Pomodoros”.

Choose a task to accomplish and set your timer to 25 minutes. For 25 minutes focus on the task. When the timer rings, take a short break of 5 minutes.

Repeat this for 4 intervals( 100 minutes of focused work with combined 15 minutes of break time). After completing 4 “pomodoros”, take a longer break of 25-30 minutes.

This technique helps you improve your attention span and productivity. You’ll get a lot accomplished by following this method. In this way, you can avoid being lazy.

4. Establish a Routine

Create a  routine that works well for you and then practice it daily. Don’t be rigid while doing this, keep your routine flexible. If you are a morning bird, who feel productive in the morning then you’ll set the routine different than a night owl, who feel active and productive at night.

Establishing a routine will help you to form good habits. When you will get in sync with your routine, it’ll be easy for you to overcome laziness and procrastination and do your planned work on time.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.

– Aristotle

For instance, I make my morning routine like this

  • 5 a.m. – Wake up, have warm water
  • 5:15 a.m. – Workout
  • 6 a.m.– Shower, Prepare Breakfast
  • 7:30  a.m. – Leave for office

If I schedule my time like this and practice it for days then eventually I’ll get used to it. I don’t need to keep track of the time then. Having a routine saves your time, keeps you on track to get your tasks done.

5. Stay Away From Distractions

Often, we get distracted while doing our work – whether it’s Social media or watching Netflix. We pick our phones for a second to watch something on Instagram and end up mindlessly scrolling the screen for half an hour or sometimes even more than that. We prefer binge-watching web series instead of completing our work.

Stay Away From Distractions - OVERCOME LAZINESS

Starve your distractions, feed your focus.

Make a habit to first complete your work and then take a break to relax and reward yourself by watching your favourite series. Don’t touch your phone until you get your job done.

6. Recharge Yourself

To stay productive and overcome laziness, we need to revive ourselves often so that we can work efficiently and actively.

Do you recharge yourself as much as you recharge your phone?

Take a break from your regular schedule and recharge yourself with leisure activities. Allow yourself to have fun. Whether it is to go out with friends or doing any fun activity at your place.

7. Make Boring Tasks Fun

Make daily tasks interesting by adding a fun element to it. Set a timer, challenge yourself to complete the task in the designated time limit. While doing something like cleaning the house, cooking or workout, you can put your favourite music on. It’ll not only make your job fun but also gives you a sense of attainment.

Make each day your masterpiece.

– John Wooden

8. Get Organized

Being organized can help you feel less stress and can improve your productivity. When space around is cluttered then you may feel less likely to do the job.

Get Organized TO overcome laziness

Whatever affects your motivation, organize it. Whether it’s your desk, car, house or your digital gadgets

9. Take Action

There is no use in reading any guides to overcome laziness unless you take action. To get your work done, you need to take action. Drop the word ‘lazy’ from your vocabulary.

Well done is better than well said.

– Benjamin Franklin

10. Stay Motivated

Become your source of inspiration. You are the one who knows how capable you are. Strengthen your willpower and self-discipline by affirmations like “I can do this.” Be your coach and motivate yourself to get things done. Remind yourself, how badly you want to achieve something. Held yourself accountable to get it done.

Takeaway

You can easily overcome laziness by cultivating good habits in your life. Take charge of your mind and get things done productively. Anything is possible with the right approach and the right mindset.
